Abstract Objective The aim of the study was to evaluate the true incidence, diagnosis, and treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) arising after whiplash injury and to distinguish this type of posttraumatic vertigo from other types of dizziness complained after trauma. Methods This was a retrospective study comprising patients referred to our center after whiplash injury. The patients were evaluated with neurotologic examination including bedside and instrumental tests. Our immunohistochemical study shows that atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is present in both human fetal and adult parotid gland. In the fetuses ANP is localized in cell clusters, while in adult parotid gland, the ANP is seen only in the wall of intra- and extralobular ducts. The results suggest that ANP might play a role in the differentiation of the parotid gland similarly as in brain and that during fetal growth ANP may play a role in the regulating the secretion of primitive salivary fluid, even if acini are still not developed. Yarrowia lipolytica can grow on many hydrophobic substrates and metabolize them via the β-oxidation pathway or store them into lipid bodies. The first contact between the cell and the hydrophobic substrates is by the cell wall. In this step, cell-wall proteins (CWP), β-glucane and chitin of the cell wall could play an important role for the adhesion and uptake of hydrophobic substrates.
